Projector Lamp

The most popular option for a Projector Lamp is LCD. Another popular display technology is DLP. Along with making a few choices for extending the life of the lamp, people also need to consider different things when buying. The contrast ratio is what ensures every image would be sharp and clear. At minimum, this ratio should be 250 to one. Additionally, the projector lamp should be able to support a large spectrum of colors, with the best choice being 16 million. Brightness is another factor that should include lumens rating between 1,000 and 2,000 for a classroom setting and 3,000 to 4,000 for a larger auditorium.

DLP Projectors can now use LED lamps, which have a longer life. LCD projectors typically use other LCD lamp technology. Typically LEDs are lighter but not as powerful or bright as an LCD lamp.

The resolution of the Projector Lamp is also important with the higher resolution producing crisp images. A lamp with a resolution of 1024x768 offers the best results. After making the right choice of projector, including whether it is people can do a few things to extend the life of the project lamp. These lamps are not cheap so making them last as long as possible will save money. Some tips include:

  • The projector should never be disconnected at the wall outlet. Instead, the projector should only be turned off by the on/off switch or remote control to allow the internal fan to continue running, helping to cool off the projector lamp. These lamps get extremely hot but turning the projector off correctly allows the glass to cool evenly, which reduces risk of cracking.
  • When turned on, the projector should be on a minimum of five to ten minutes, again allowing the fan to cool the project lamp and other internal components the chance to cooProjector lampl down.
  • The projector should never be moved until the projector lamp has had the chance to cool down. When moved with the lamp still hot, any vibration or mechanical shock could cause breakage or other failure.
  • When in operation, a person needs to make sure that the exhaust or air intake vent is not obstructed. Being covered would cause the projector lamp to overheat. The best solution is to make sure nothing is within two feet of these vents so there is proper airflow.
  • Every four to six months, the air intake filter needs to be cleaned. However, if the projector lamp is used often, then cleaning should occur more often. Typically, this process is quick and easy but anyone uncomfortable in cleaning the vent could have it professionally cleaned.

Buying the right projector and projector lamp based on a person's needs and then following a few steps for maintenance is all it takes to add life to the system.
